MeetOurSpeaker.com came from a desire to tie in the sum of real-world business successes and expertise with a platform that has transformed our lives like no other in our generation…the Internet. 

 

As early as 1982 I was already working on the Internet. That’s when, as chance would have it, I decided to join the military in order to finance the completion of my college education. As a Radio & TV communications major at New York University, I recall telling the recruiter I wanted to work in some “other type of communications.” 

 

The recruiter heard me loud and clear and with a big broad smile announced, “I have the perfect job for you in the Army and if you sign here right now, I’ll have you in Germany in less than 3 months!” I couldn’t believe my luck! I was now a 72G, or rather a fixed station telecommunications operator. 

 

For years I toiled away at what I now consider to have been the military’s version of Western Union. In fact, Western Union, Arpanet and all of these types of early networks where all precursors to what we now know as the Internet. In 1985 I retired from the military, well sort of, I wasn’t old enough to retire! I just didn’t re-enlist. 

 

Then it happened for me late 1996 in New York City. While desperately trying to get online with the slooow servers at Prodigy and AOL and after having my money stolen by unscrupulous web and graphic designers who never delivered, I was finally online!  I had my first email address! Nirvana!

 

Well, the next 2 ½ years were particularly dramatic or perhaps, traumatic. In 1999 after being dead broke and nearly getting kicked out of my 1 bedroom apartment, then getting my car towed for unpaid parking tickets, I was able to sell that Internet company for more money than I had ever seen in one place in my life! 

 

In fact, I’m happy to say that company, www.lamusica.com ,still exists today. I’d like to think that’s a testament to all the blood, sweat and sacrifice I endured. I survived the Dot Bomb!

 

Today with Web 2.0 empowering millions of people like never before, I knew it was time to jump back and help usher in this new era for the Internet and share the world’s knowledge, expertise and action steps with you. 

 

I know I don’t appear that old but, armed with 20 years experience in business, management, production and more, my intention is to empower you by bringing to our platform the people who can not only tell you, but also teach you, all they know about succeeding in their fields.

Evelyn Lissette Rios was born in Puerto Rico and moved to South Florida with her parents at the age of fifteen. She later got married and began raising her two boys. Her career began with a position at First Union National Bank. Proving herself and her abilities she was promoted to the position of Assistant Vice President. 

 

However, it was in 1998 while working as Director of Events for St Bonaventure Catholic Church that her passion for event planning and coordination began. She later honed her marketing skills at LTP Management, a restaurant management company, where she served as Marketing Director.

 

In 2003 she became Vice President of the Latin Business Club of America. Evelyn Lissette also held the position of partner within the organization and worked closely with co-partner Monica Puig who currently serves as the Organization’s President.

 

Evelyn Lissette has worked with the following organizations: Broward County Chamber of Commerce, South Florida International Chamber of Commerce, Latin Business Club, just to mention a few. Presently she is a Board Director of the Puerto Rican/ Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Broward, Florida State Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Minority Chamber of Commerce and The South Florida Business Connection.

 

The experience of working with the Hispanic community has allowed her to provide consulting services to companies and organizations such as Office Depot, World Trade Center Miami, Florida Foreign Trade Association, Allstate Insurance, Master Constructors, Inc., Puerto-Rican/Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Fiestas Patronales, South Florida International Chamber of Commerce, Bert Oliva Enterprise, Ms. Latina International, Grand National Championship and Milton Olave Co. She also partnered with Monica Puig from the Latin Business Club and Latin Biz Magazine.
